چکیده

In recent years, the wireless industry has shown great interest in OFDM systems. Indeed, such systems have been adopted in a variety of wireless applications such as digital audio broadcasting (DAB) and digital video broadcasting (DVB). Moreover, OFDM has also been proposed for indoor wireless networks and fixed wireless broadband access [1,2]. This growing interest was due to the realisation that OFDM is an efficient scheme to convey information in a frequency selective fading channel without requiring complex equalisers [3]. Moreover, OFDM uses the available bandwidth efficiently and can be efficiently generated and detected using the IFFT and the FFT, respectively [4]. The main drawback of OFDM is its high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) and consequently its vulnerability to non-linear distortion [5-10]. Note that high PAPR imply large amplitude fluctuations that will occasionally hit the non-linear region of elements in the OFDM communication system. In the open literature, it has always been assumed that the higher the number of OFDM sub-channels and hence the higher the PAPR the larger the error probability of non-linearly distorted OFDM signals [5-10]. In this paper, we show however that the error probability performance of such signals can in fact decrease as the number of OFDM sub-channels is increased.

MMSE Receivers for Non-Linearly Distorted OFDM Signals

In this paper, we have derived the structure of the minimum mean-squared error (MMSE) receiver for non-linearly distorted orthogonal frequency division multiplexer (OFDM) signals in additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN). We demonstrate that this receiver consists of a set of correlators or a set of filters matched to every possible frequency components in the non-linearly distorted OFDM signal f...

Discrimination of Power Quality Distorted Signals Based on Time-frequency Analysis and Probabilistic Neural Network

Recognition and classification of Power Quality Distorted Signals (PQDSs) in power systems is an essential duty. One of the noteworthy issues in Power Quality Analysis (PQA) is identification of distorted signals using an efficient scheme. This paper recommends a Time–Frequency Analysis (TFA), for extracting features, so-called "hybrid approach", using incorporation of Multi Resolution Analysis...

A Novel Method for Estimation of The Fundamental Parameters of Distorted Single Phase Signals

This paper proposes a new method for parameter estimation of distorted single phase signals, through an improved demodulation-based phase tracking incorporated with a frequency adaptation mechanism. The simulation results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method compared to the conventional SOGI (Second-Order Generalized Integrator)-based approach, in spite of the dc-offset and harmon...

Increasing the Performance of OFDM Systems by PAPR Reduction in PTS Technique using Election Optimization Algorithm

Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is a useful technology in wireless communications that provides high-rate data transmission in multipath fading channels. The advantages of OFDM systems are the high spectral efficiency and strong resistance to frequency selective fading. In OFDM systems, a large number of sub-carriers are used to modulate the symbols causing the time-domain OFD...
